Joseph Ervin Maxey was born in Shannon County, Missouri, the son of Daniel Wesley Maxey and Anna C. McDougal.
Joseph married Dell Childs on October 22, 1908.
Della "Dell" Childs was born in Louisiana in 1888, the daughter of Richard T. and Jennie Childs. Richard Childs, a farmer and Georgia native, moved to Texas, then Louisiana, and eventually settled in Pike City, Pike County, Arkansas.
Dell was a sister to Lula Childs Stinnett, who has previously been featured on this site, and whose tombstone is next to Joseph Ervin Maxey's.
Joseph and Dell Maxey had two children: John Ervin Maxey and Mary Norine Maxey.
